2019 Gulf Insurance Inter - Primary School Championship

Easter is just around the corner and school is out for a long weekend. Wednesday afternoon is an island holiday so that everyone can make it to the Inter - Primary School Championship. The Nevis Island Elementary Schools compete in an intense environment for the track championship at The Mondo Track.

There was over 5,000 people packed into the stadium; parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and alumni of the schools. We were there during the relay races. The stadium announcers gave a spirited and entertaining play by play.

 

Mondo is the name of the track surface, The Nevis Government installed it just over a year ago, they are currently debating the official name for the track. The announcers at the track was high energy, promoting the sponsors, selling the concessions, asking the DJ to play some good music. At one point he proclaimed "20,000 people packed into Mondo Stadium!" and "We are shoulder shoulder, back to back, neck to neck"

The clouds and threat of rain did not deter anyone from the event.

Tailgating and partying by the adults.

7 hours of racing until 9:30 at night. The pressure on the children was Major League!
