Leaving the Country

I found this song, Country Bus, a few years back and it has become one of my favorites do to its upbeat melody. After a few days in Nevis this song came to my mind. I pulled up the lyrics and looked at them closer. The song was written in a Caribbean English dialect, so it may be hard to understand.

The person in the song needs to go to the city, so he grabs a country bus someplace in the Caribbean, he is just sitting back reading his paper, when the bus driver takes off speeding. The bus stops at a place called Cane Peace and they pick up a woman with a fancy hairdo, a Rasta man (who rolls a marijuana joint)  and some skinny villagers. They make another stop and pick up a blind man who the Rider thinks must be a comedian, because he is so funny. The rider looks out the window and see's cows eating and goats walking around like they are lost. The bus driver teases the blind man, a school kid is bawling in first class and an old lady screams because the bus driver is driving to fast. Every body in the bus is mad and start to cuss.

The last line, the rider imagines what it might be like in the city:

Hey watch ya
I hear that the city don't sleep, there is
No goat, no cow, no sheep, oh
And I hear seh, the city don't cheap
And mi hear seh a every night state show keep, lawd!
I love to see the city lights, yes
All the people and all the pretty lights

Right now he is looking forward to getting on the airplane and seeing it for himself.

Heading home today leaving the country, I get the song now. What a great trip
